olive flowering

Flowering has begun in our grove with Koroneki, a Greek variety first to open their delicate opaque-white petals to allow wind pollination of silky yellow stamens. The trees are beautiful at this time with their long stems showing off many tiny flowers.

Olive Festival

We attended the olive festival t held at the Hawke's Bay Racecourse in Hastings in September. This years' festival held a Chefs Table where the public were invited to sit with local chefs, and ask questions. Celebrity chefs Alison and Simon Holst were available at set times over the course of the day. We were delighted when Alison visited out stall and complemented our olive oil bar suggested uses for our oils. A cooking demonstration by Simon Holst showcased our Leccino oil..

summer fruit

We have found a new use for out olive nets after harvest. They come in handy to throw over our summer fruit trees to stop the bird sdevouring our ripening apricots, peaches and cherries. Last year the birds ate everything and left us the seeds dangling from stalks that were still attached to the tree. .

Around the garden

We have just planted this year's crop of tomatoes, herbs, aubergines, bell pepper, chillis, peas and beans. We have been eating home grown lettuce, which grew under our broccoli over the winter months. We produced tamarillo chutney and spicy lemon pickle this year.

Antipasta platters

As summer approaches, we will be serving antipasta platters with a medley of oils. You will be able to sit in the olive garden with your platter and let your tastebuds experience a food fusion..
